The pub is reputedly haunted by the apparition of a former landlord named Gutsell. In life he seemed popular with the locals and feels the need to return after death. He has been sighted sitting by the fireplace chewing on a piece of straw!

The village is about 6 miles east of Hastings, on the main A259 Hastings to Rye road.
